About the School

Netherton School is a semi-open plan school which was extended in 1981 and caters for up to 240 boys and girls between the ages of three and eleven. It is situated at the northern end of Netherton village which is five miles from Wakefield, fifteen miles from Leeds and ten miles from Huddersfield. It serves and draws its children primarily from a mixture of private and council houses within the village.

The building comprises 7 classrooms which surround two large, central shared areas. Each classroom is large enough to accommodate a whole class and has an additional carpeted area. All classrooms are equipped with an interactive whiteboard. The shared areas are used for group activities. These areas have sinks and tiled flooring suitable for all activities and provide a very pleasant open environment for the children to work in.

There is a hall area used for whole school assemblies, school productions, concerts, indoor games and as a gymnasium.

The Early Years  Unit, which caters for pupils aged between three and five years, and which forms an integral part of the main building, was opened in September 2004. Detailed information about the Early Years education at Netherton School is contained in the Early Years Stage  Brochure which is available on request from school.

Library and Music Suites

We have a lovely modern library in which pupils can enjoy looking at books and attend reading club sessions.  The adjoining room is used for instrumental music tuition. We offer brass, strings and even percussion.
