Welcome to our school

OFSTED 10-11 January 2017

Summary of key findings for parents and pupils
We are extremely proud to be a good school.
The headteacher, other leaders and governors have been tenacious and resolute in tackling the issues raised at the previous inspection. This has brought about swift school improvement, including in teaching and outcomes for pupils.

Overall, all groups of pupils, including the most able and those who are disadvantaged, make good progress in a range of subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, art and music. Standards are rising as a result.

Teachers have responded well to leaders’ higher expectations. They are held accountable for their teaching and for pupils’ progress.

Teaching has improved and is now good. Activities enthuse pupils’ learning and are well matched to their varying learning needs.

Pupils are provided with good opportunities to use and apply their mathematical and English skills in these subjects.

Pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities receive effective support. They are now making good progress from their starting points.

Effective leadership and teaching in the early years ensures that children are very well prepared for learning in key stage 1.

Pupils’ personal development and behaviour are good. Pupils feel safe and cooperate well with each other. Behaviour is calm and makes a positive contribution to learning.

Overall, attendance has improved and is above average.

Pupils are punctual and benefit from school.

Governors provide good challenge and support to senior leaders. They know the school’s strengths, areas to improve and hold leaders to account well. Governors use information in an efficient manner to challenge leaders.

Aims

At Netherton School we aim to provide a caring and stimulating environment where work and high standards are of prime importance. We believe that if children are taught in such an environment, learning will be enjoyable and the children will be happy.

Our dedicated and conscientious staff provide a secure framework within which each child can learn. We encourage each child to develop his/her full potential. We have high expectations of work and behaviour. Children are encouraged to produce their best at all times. We take pride in our achievements and celebrate our successes.

We believe that education is a partnership between staff, pupils and parents and that it is at its most effective where there is close co-operation between home and school. Parents and visitors are, therefore, always welcome in school and there are opportunities during the year for parents to consult with staff on an individual basis. Working together we can help to give your child security and confidence without which real learning is impossible.

We are determined to create an inclusive culture of learning where all children will be challenged in their thinking, strive for continuous improvement and be motivated to become lifelong learners and achievers.

We will empower our children to become respected citizens to enable them to make valuable contributions locally, globally and to contribute to their sustainable future.

We hope that you enjoy our website.
